Keeping an eye on the digital landscape
Large companies have a confusing landscape of numerous websites and touchpoints. These complex systems have grown historically over the years and increasing the difficulty to achieve overarching technical standardization. Yet the technical metrics ultimately determine the success of a website, as they lead to efficiency gains and cost savings in campaigning. This is not just about loading times, but also about uncovering performance problems in mobile applications, improving accessibility and user-friendliness, optimizing SEO, and aligning web development with best practices. Our partner Böhringer Ingelheim also has a complex digital landscape, which is not only responsible for over 800 active websites in its corporate activities but also cooperates with dozens of agencies and technical service providers in the process. We at Factorial were given the task of finding a way to check this complex system with regard to the above-mentioned quality criteria and to find a way to establish technical standards on the active website. In addition to that our tasks was to ensure the long-term compliance with these technical standards. With Website Standards Dashboard, or WSD, an all-encompassing solution for the quality assurance of these relevant, technical criteria was developed. The tool carries out a comprehensive analysis of web applications, in which SEO, security and legal aspects are monitored and evaluated in addition to performance and accessibility.
